About the event

Second Saturdays @ Oxbow presents... “HALF OF A YELLOW SUN” by CHIMI

CHIMI is an interdisciplinary storyteller from Southeastern Nigeria, now based in Northeast Ohio. In her work she blends African and American roots as the foreground of artistic reckoning on memory, identity, grief, faith, and all their emotional echoes. Raised by pastors, CHIMI has been singing in the church since she could talk, and now layers and develops electronic and percussive scores for her soulful performances.

From touring and writing with international acts like Mourning [A] BLKstar, Lee Baines, Lonnie Holley, & Moor Mother, to composing scores for choreographers like Symara Sarai, she creates with the cosmos in mind; not expecting to land among the stars, but to return to expansiveness. CHIMI’s work has been featured in art exhibitions, installations, theaters, clubs, churches, and festivals from Ohio to Paris.

In 2024, she was awarded the Premiere Fellowship from Cleveland Public…
