Natural Indigo Dyeing

Want to learn the process of dyeing with Japanese indigo? We are growing Japanese indigo at the farm and in this workshop you will get a full introduction of the plant, the dye and the process. We will focus on learning how the indigo dye is made, materials needed, and demonstrate how to surface design on cloth using the ancient Japanese technique of Shibori, a shaped-resist technique.

Please bring 3-5 items made of natural cellulose fibers (cotton, linen, wool, or rayon) to dye.

White/light colors work best to show off the indigo blue.

All materials will be provided. Workshop will be help in the farm picnic area or under an awning in case of rain.
